Age Spots

Think back to the days that you spent on holiday in some far off location, where for hours and hours you lay under the blazing sun, determined to get that all-important tan that you could take back to the UK to proudly show off in the office. In the process of this ‘tanning’ regime, if you were sensible, you would cover your body with some form of sun protection. However, when you think back can you actually remember ever covering the backs of your hands?

Later in the day after a nice shower, you would be window-shopping and walking down the street in some lovely little Spanish, French or Italian town with most of your body protected from the sun, yet the backs of your hands and your chest would be exposed – and probably didn’t receive any protection from the sun’s rays. Thus as the years went on, the age spots, liver spots, sun spots or whatever you choose to call them were gradually forming under the skin. The fact in all of this is that it took time for them to form – and it will also take time to eradicate them.

Most of the while these spots are simply a message that your skin has been over-exposed to sun - and over a long period of time. They are harmless, mostly brown discolouration’s that can occur on the backs of the hands, neck and face and while they don’t do any harm – what they regrettably do it is to suggest the age of the person who has them.

An Example

One shocking example that we well remember you may recall yourself: In June 2006, the Daily Mail wrote about Madonna saying ‘she had the body of a teenager, but the hands of a grandmother. Pictured yesterday leaving her gym after a workout, the material girl displayed hands that appeared to be ravaged by age, with bulging veins and paper thin skin that wrinkled as she clutched a bottle of mineral water. Older women are particularly vulnerable to "ageing" hands because the menopause causes a drop in their levels of oestrogen - the hormone that helps to keep the skin plump and fleshy.’ Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-392693/Why-Madonnas-hands-look-older-face.html#ixzz3RziOAi5A

These age spots that Madonna has (had?) are usually not life-threatening, but instead are mainly an annoyance, but if you have irregular, dark spots that increase in size or change colour/texture, have its best to have them checked by a doctor since they could be a sign of something more sinister. As we get older our metabolism changes and while as we say these spots can be attributed to skin that has been over-exposed to the sun, sometimes they can be due to impaired liver function (where it can be overcome with toxins) or dietary and nutritional deficiencies. If the liver cannot get rid of toxins then the age spots (liver spots) can begin to develop.

So, given that we are all a little vain and don’t want to be seen to be ageing, what can we do about this? We have two suggestions – internal and topical.

Internal

A toxic and damaged liver reduces its capacity to store Vitamin A and without vitamin A inflammations and infections begin to attack the skin. So our ‘natural’ suggestion is to carry out a liver cleanse and to do this simply by drinking a mix of carrot and beetroot juice. Carrot juice on its own has a high glycaemic index (too much to explain in this little article) but suffice to say that blending them together makes them much more palatable and an excellent liver cleanse. If you are lucky and are have a juicer, then the best possible juice to use is that taken straight from the raw plant. If on the other hand (like me) you don’t have a juicer, then you can use juice that can be bought in a supermarket.

I often buy juice in this way but have found that buying in bulk (12 bottles at a time) delivered to the door by James White from Suffolk (http://www.jameswhite.co.uk) is a very viable alternative from a company who have the sort of ethics that I trust – never mind the fact that they have a Royal Warrant – and the fact that beetroot juice can help reduce your blood pressure – see our article http://www.moss-grove.co.uk/article-liver-spring-clean.html

Topical

There are loads of on-line suggestions as to how you can reduce the visual image of age spots, but most of them in our opinion are a regurgitation of the same ideas – and if they worked – then why are they not selling in big quantities – world-wide? And so, we looked at the problem from a completely different manner to come up with what we hope will be a remarkable ‘natural’ solution to this problem. In our formula we will use coconut oil and combine this with a blend of plant-based therapeutic essential oils – with some that will act on the spots, while others are cell-rejuvenating. Coconut oil helps keep the skin, young, healthy and free from disease – it’s a fact that we will write more fully about in our next article and it’s the reason why we will use it in our age-spot removal lotion which a number of our nice customers have agreed to test and help prove the concept. In this we will have lots of ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos and proof for all to see.

Natures Miracle

The antimicrobial power of coconut oil has been tested in many laboratories, but there is one way that I found of its healing powers – and it was by accident. Some years ago I was helping a friend build an extension to his house. Stupidly I dropped a concrete block onto my hand pinching a piece of flesh at the side. Although it was very painful, the skin wasn’t broken but I could see a dark blood-blister under the skin. Being on what was a ‘building site’ where my friend had no first-aid I looked in my car to see if I had anything that may help. The only thing that could find was a jar that contained some residue of coconut oil. I tenderly washed my hand and rubbed some oil over my sore skin. I knew that coconut oil was good to eat but had never used it on skin – or on an injury. You can imagine my amazement some hours later to see that the blood blister had nearly disappeared.

I thought to myself that the last time I had something of this sort, it took weeks to heal. Hence my hope that it may perform the same miracle on the few age spots that I have on the back of my own hand – and on yours, if you have them.
